Quik Kash - Loaded (Official Video)
Leaderboard! We’re making stuff happen this year. Here’s a video from Quik Kash’s mixtape “Never Slackin’.” The video was shot by Rowe. He’s not only a dope photographer, but someone I’d consider a friend. Of course I recorded the song and mixed it. You know, we keep everything in house here at Leaderboard! So check out the video and let us know what you think!
I got that ambition, baby. Look in my eyes.

I'm looking for the face of "Precious."
No, not Gabourey Sidibe. I’m speaking of the song that I’ve been talking about for the past few days. I think it’s getting closer to the point where I need to release it. First, not without a cover. I think the visual aspect of a song means just as much to the promotion as the actual song.
So, in Leaderboard fashion, I’m looking for a woman to take part in this great song....
You're so precious to me.
This record has to be big. I can feel it. I wrote it while I was in a completely discouraged moment about my music. The things I speak on are crazy, man. The lyrics span from my childhood, my current situation, women, and back to my team. It does all of this while being lyrical, but also having something catchy that everyone can remember and sing along to. I’ll go on record to say it: This...
"From Losers To Leaders."
This is going to be a great project. I don’t know what makes this any different from the other 15 projects that I said would be great. I have a list of failures that I would rather not go own memory lane with. Just know that I’m going to work hard to make sure “From Losers To Leaders” really materializes.
I recorded the first track for it the other days. It’s a...
Never Slackin’ Promo #3
Quik Kash has a pretty dope mixtape dropping on February 25th! That’s this Friday. He’s been on a campaign posting videos and what not. I don’t know how this promos his mixtape being that the camera is on me the whole time and I’m rapping a song that I’m working on right now!
I guess this is a preview for my shit and not his! Even...
I'm actually working on a dope record right now.
After this mornings post, I went looking for industry beats that made me feel a certain way. I’ve vowed to stay away from industry beats for a while because I wanted to develop my own sound. The last one I touched was Miguel’s “All I Want Is You” for my track “Change of Heart.” I don’t remember how long it had been since I rapped on a regular instrumental...
I feel like I'm losing it.
I can’t seem to find my mojo on a beat anymore. It’s becoming harder and harder to write and even more harder to please myself. I don’t finish what I start anymore. There was a time when I’d write songs nonstop. Hell, I did a complete mixtape in five days. It seems like it takes me five days to write a song. I blame it on the beats that I have, but I’m not sure what...
I'm going to do a bit more tidying up on this...
I’ve let the whole topic of THE JAY ADAMS PROJECT fall by the wayside. This blog is about letting you, the listener, get to know me, the artist, on a more personal level. I have a blog where I just write about whatever, but I want this one to be about and the soundtrack to my life. I’m going to start making more music centered posts. They always won’t be my songs, but I think if...
Midwest Star Power →
Have you ever heard of Midwest Star Power? If not, this is your opportunity to embrace the hipster inside of you. I’ve recently been added to the team for a wonderful up-and-coming site that centers around the culture of the Midwest, as well as other regions of the world. Being that I am from the Midwest, I am excited about being a part of this.
I hope that you’ll support this website...

This is a video of Kristen Holt (featured on Change of Heart) recording her song “Always Yours” last night. She wrote and arranged this beautiful acoustic piece that I will be releasing on my blog and sending to other blogs a little later tonight. This is just a teaser until the actual song drops. I don’t even think she knows I was recording the video to be honest. She closes her...
Okay, I lied. I need to send out those messages. I...
I’m sorry in advance.
Think of it this way: You’re exposed to new music that you previously didn’t know existed. We’re not bad, I promise you. It’s something that you’d enjoy. Everyone. Besides, we all know hipsters want that new exclusive shit.
TELL A FRIEND: "Leaderboard Thusdays" will be back...
This is the week of Mic G. I don’t know if you know how serious this man has been when it’s come to music for these past few months. I will be releasing two records that he has produced and rapped on. He only wants one to be released, but it’s the week of Mic G and both of these songs need to be heard from a production side as well as a lyrical side. I’m so impressed with...
Don't worry. I'm not going to spam your messages...
It got me a ton of listens, but I don’t know if I did more damage than good with those messages. It’s all trial and error, of course. I’m not sure how to go about pushing my music right now. All suggestions are great suggestions.
Anyone?
I'm looking for a small focus group:
I’m in the process of mixing this “Jezebel” record. The tricky thing about engineering is that your ears can mess with you after a late night, lack of sleep, and listening to music all day.
Leave your emails and I will email you the song.
Let me know what you think of the mix and the actual song.
"Jezebel" is my reemergence as a writer.
I have been listening to my music and trying to find out what was lacking. I believe I have everything that I need to make me successful, but I felt like there was one thing missing. Over the years, I’ve traded off writing a song that connects each verse together for a flow filled with bravado, clever wordplay, and a dope instrumental. I hadn’t actually formulated a song that was more...

Let's talk about rap voices.
Someone just brought up a reason as to why they don’t like my music (except for two songs). They said it’s because of my rap voice. Then they went on to explain that my rap voice is different from my speaking voice, in which I don’t agree. I felt a bit singled out because they tried to give me examples of people who don’t have a rap voice. I think that every rapper has a...
Mic G is turning into Kurt Cobain in the studio...
“What [Skye Allen] need to be takin’ is some of these pills.”
Skye Allen is recording his verse and he’s messing up. I can tell that he’s getting frustrated. This guy Mic just suggests pills out of no where. Like, what the hell? When did he turn into such a druggie. Guess what? That’s not it…
“Why aren’t we doing coke right now?”

This is when the doubt sets in...
I promised myself when I started this blog that I will keep everything truthful whether it be good or bad. This blog is intended to represent my journey from this point until I feel like my career is at the point I want it to be. I have to remember to be honest with myself because these posts will one day become the story of my life. They will be read while I’m in route to my next show as a...
I am looking for a few unbiased opinions on this...
Leave me your email addresses and/or contact information.
I’d like to know what you’re feeling about this record. I’ve gotten some mixed feedback. I need people who aren’t subjective to what other people say.
Thanks, Jay Adams
Today, Mic G and I did not put together a beat. No, we put together a film. The intro to “No Sleep For The Gifted” should be an amazing introduction into not only this project, but an introduction into my mind. The way this sounds is nothing less than breathtaking. I’m thrilled to write to this and get it ready.
The beat in this video is not the beat for the intro. This is...

Genuine interest?
I have to figure out if the people around me are genuinely interested in what I’m doing or do they just pay attention to it because it’s me. Does that make sense? What I’m trying to say is: Don’t like or listen to my music just because I’m your friend. I want people to have a genuine interest in what I’m doing. A lot of the music I make is for us, so I want them...
I'm going to tell you the story of "No Sleep For...
You think I should actually write a short story to go with the photo-book? I’ve been playing with this idea of just writing posts on my blog as a story of the music while it’s being completed. Maybe I should just write something to go inside the actual CD. That’d be dipping into three possible careers. Should I?
Would you a read a short story to go with my album?
sofar-gone asked: Dear Jay,
Don't hate me, but I have a lot of catching up to do with Leaderboard Thursdays! >.< One quick question though: Have you thought about putting out a mixtape? (Probably a stupid question because I'm sure you have so I guess let me rephrase this) Can I/we expect a mixtape from you soon? Cause I'd definitely like to be bumpin it in my car. And if not a mixtape,...

These beats are fucking amazing.
My team is golden. You cannot be serious right now. I came to Mic with a vision and we put together something absolutely amazing. The story in the music is something that I am even impressed by. From the way the drums sounds like a heartbeat to the way the strings become the barer of bad news, the music will be the obvious star of my project. Don’t get caught up on everything that comes...
