“The Vacation”
by Jay Adams

The air seems to be cooler than usual on this September night. I can’t put my finger on it, but this isn’t going to be an ordinary trip. Lord knows I needed to get away. My band and I have a gig in LA, but this vacation is all about me.

There has been so much going on in these past few weeks. I’ve always undervalued the importance of a good rest.  You know what, though? I’m going to get as much of it as I possibly can for this next week. My body is weary. This replenishment is long overdue.

Now, here we are in this airport. I’ve always hated airports. They’re noisy and crowded. Who does this anyway? The stereotypical stares at people who “fit the profile” have always bothered me. I can sense the tension building in this place. I wonder if they can feel me people-watching? That’d be weird. Like, look at this dude- he’s not even watching where he’s going. I can’t take this anymore.

I turn to my bass guitarist and ask: “Would it be odd if we just started playing right here, right now?”

Welcome to “The Vacation.”

“Oh, Yes! (Produced by Straight Flush Music)” - Jay Adams

I haven’t spoken about this at all on my blog, but I am releasing an EP on Sunday, September 4th, 2011. That’s this Sunday. The EP is called “The Vacation.” I wrote the entire EP and recorded it on Saturday. I mixed most of it yesterday and I will be doing some tweaking for the rest of the week until the release.

Another thing that I didn’t talk about on this blog was the passing of my Grandmother two weeks ago. I kept it to myself, for the most part. I needed to deal with it. This EP dealing with those emotions. If you were around during the past two weeks, you know everything that I’m talking about, even if it’s hidden behind the guise of a good time. Mainly, this record that I’m releasing today.

I miss my Grandma dearly, and this song stems from a situation that happened after everything was all said and done. After the funeral and whatnot. I won’t get into some deep breakdown of the song, because there are things that I’d rather not discuss outside of music. Hell, I didn’t even fully explain what I was feeling outside of a bravdo-like rap. There is a true emotion behind the words, though. It takes a special person to cipher through and find them.

Without further adieu: “Oh, Yes!”

We’ve been sitting on this record for a while. I think it’s time that the world hears it. The song comes from a part of Quik Kash that people rarely get to know about. This is one of his only times really venting on a record in a no-holds-barred fashion. He usually keeps it in the lines where we, Leaderboard, know what he’s talking about. We try to remain ambiguous and give our listeners something to think about. Not this time.

I’m proud to present to you: Dip. This is the beginning of Leaderboard Thursdays for the second time. We hope to keep it going hard for the summer! This is the first Thursday of this season and we plan on turning it into a Leaderboard Summer! Keep checkin’ back for updates and everything involving us.

For now, this song should hold you over.

What a night, what a night, right? God, we had an amazing time performing this song. This was back in January. Skye Allen finally let me get my hands on some of our performance footage. You are now seeing Leaderboard’s first performance as a group. I’ve performed with Quik Kash countless times, and Skye Allen has performed with Mic G, but we’ve never performed together, all four of us.

The order is as follows: Quik Kash*, Skye Allen, (Jay Adams and Skye Allen on the hook), Mic G, Jay Adams.

I figured this would be a great relaunch of my blog with it’s new layout! Go ahead and check it out! I’m also changing the site to www.thejayadamsproject.com next week! This is about to get so official! Support myself, Leaderboard, and great music! This is the first of many performances.

You can download the song on the side of my blog, btw.

(*I know, I know, he messed up!)

Quik Kash - Loaded (Official Video)

Leaderboard! We’re making stuff happen this year. Here’s a video from Quik Kash’s mixtape “Never Slackin’.” The video was shot by Rowe. He’s not only a dope photographer, but someone I’d consider a friend. Of course I recorded the song and mixed it. You know, we keep everything in house here at Leaderboard! So check out the video and let us know what you think!

Finally, we have the official release of “Precious.” This is the first released song off of my project “From Losers to Leaders.” I’ve been talking about this song for a very long time. I believe that it’s one of the best songs that I’ve ever done in my entire life. Yes, the entire course of my life. I’m pretty much all talked out over this song. I’m just ready to release it. There has been a lot of suspense building going on. Honestly, I’m not even sure if that worked yet. I guess we’ll figure that out with the downloads and feedbacks.

This record tells a story about everything going on in my life. It starts with my past and goes to my present. I’ve never candidly spoken about the things that are going on with my team and the rift between us. It’s a silent rift because no one seems to address it at all, so this is the only time it’s been spoken about. I don’t want you to think we’re weak at the foundation, though. We’re working around whatever the situations may be. The only thing that matters is the music, right?

I got that ambition, baby. Look in my eyes.

I’m looking for the face of “Precious.”

No, not Gabourey Sidibe. I’m speaking of the song that I’ve been talking about for the past few days. I think it’s getting closer to the point where I need to release it. First, not without a cover. I think the visual aspect of a song means just as much to the promotion as the actual song.

So, in Leaderboard fashion, I’m looking for a woman to take part in this great song. Please reply to this blog post or contact me through Tumblr. I also have my contact information on the side of myb log. I’m looking forward to hearing from any of you. If you are interested, I’ll send you the song and we can work something out from there.

Are you interested in being on the cover of “Precious?”

You’re so precious to me.

This record has to be big. I can feel it. I wrote it while I was in a completely discouraged moment about my music. The things I speak on are crazy, man. The lyrics span from my childhood, my current situation, women, and back to my team. It does all of this while being lyrical, but also having something catchy that everyone can remember and sing along to. I’ll go on record to say it: This song is a masterpiece.

I’m confident enough to know that I’m a really dope rapper. I think I’m a lot better than what we hear on the radio these days. Is it arrogant to believe that I deserve to be there, too? Seriously, I have some unheard classics. This won’t happen with “Precious.” I know people can’t front on the genius in this record.

Now I need to strategically find the right time to drop it. I have to build the suspense up about the track. So, reblog this and let everyone know that I’m going to be dropping something that I consider to be one of my best records. Remember when I hyped up “The Leaugue of Extraordinary Gentlemen?” It damned sure didn’t fail to live up to the hype.

Look out for “Precious!” Watch this video until it drops.

“From Losers To Leaders.”

This is going to be a great project. I don’t know what makes this any different from the other 15 projects that I said would be great. I have a list of failures that I would rather not go own memory lane with. Just know that I’m going to work hard to make sure “From Losers To Leaders” really materializes.

I recorded the first track for it the other days. It’s a pretty awesome record called “Precious.” I posted a video of me working on it the other day. Well, that record is completed and I’m honestly just waiting for the right moment to drop it. I’ve been dropping records on Tumblr, but they don’t get as many listens as I’d like for them to get. Like some of those joints have been amazing tracks. I know, I’m sounding like Kanye. It’s kind of hard not to when you feel like the greatest these days.

So, here’s my checklist for “From Losers To Leaders.”

  1. Record the music.
  2. Do a promotional photoshoot for the project.
  3. Shoot videos for “Precious” and any other song that I feel needs visuals.
  4. Actually complete the project.
  5. Put together a release date.

I need your help, though. If you feel like I’m slackin’, let me know! My contact information is on the side of my blog! It’s good to hear from you. Keep me motivated. This is going to happen, really. I want all of my followers to be a part of this. I think of you when I’m making music so your input is valuable to me!
